- VCL is an emulation of the VMS Digital Command Language (DCL) for UNIX and
- MS-DOS systems. VCL features over 50 DCL commands and 300 qualifiers. The
- following VMS commands and utilities are among those provided with VCL: ASSIGN,
- COPY, DEFINE, DELETE, DIFFERENCES/PARALLEL, DIRECTORY/SINCE, DUMP, ENCRYPT,
- MERGE, SEARCH, SET and SHOW DEFAULT, SHOW MEMORY, and SORT. Other VCL features
- include lexical functions, full flow control within command files, logicals,
- user-defined commands, file encryption for data security, command-line editing,
- symbols, command history, and a customizable help facility. With VCL, suers
- access system variables, perform data type conversions and character string
- manipulation, and create command files that help automate their system.
- Additionally, MS-DOS users can take advantage of a memory swapping facility
- that copies most of the VCL process image to disk or expanded memory before
- executing VCL utilities, thus freeing more memory for other applications.
